Well.
For better or worse, I did it.
I put up a novella for sale on Amazon yesterday. It went live overnight. So far I've had a grand total on one sale (Me!) on the Canadian site. Tehehe. Anyway, yeah, not really expecting much here, but it's fun to finally get started. Now I must get back to working on the next book! Damn it, why do I have to go to work??

Date: 2013-01-28 10:52 pm (UTC)You upload your file - I use Scrivener to write in, which makes formatting a breeze - but you can upload a variety of formats - pdf, doc, html... Obviously fiction is a lot easier to get right than picture books or recipe etc. books.
So yeah.
1. Create account.
2. Upload file and cover, enter descriptions etc.
3. Set price
4. Hit Publish.
5. Wait.
6. Obsessively check sales and be mildly disappointed when you don't get any, and stupidly excited when you do get one.

Date: 2013-01-29 12:31 am (UTC)There are a lot of sites that you can publish Print On Demand paperbacks (or hardbacks). I used Createspace. It was pretty simple as well, you just follow the steps.
Royalties:
KDP for sales between $2.99 and $9.99 you get 70% of the sale when it's sold in certain territories (US, Canada, most of Europe, Japan...) If it's sold elsewhere (Australia unfortunately) then you get 35% of the sale price.
If you price outside of that range then you get 35% of the sale.
If you've taken the 70% option, you do get charged delivery charges - I get charged 3c.
If you have a huge file with lots of pictures you might get dinged a few dollars delivery fee, you could be better off financially to go with the 35% option... anyway it helps you figure out which would be the most profitable for you.
Royalties on Createspace depend on how long your books is and how much you price it... They're decent enough though.
