It's true either way, but you have more freedom re: Canada if you do it before the teaching degree. I'm biased because I have taken time off at various points before/during my degrees, but I think it makes more sense that way. If you take time off after, I worry that makes it harder to transition to a job (or whatever the next logical step is).
